Title goes here....
So we are suppose to give voice to a voiceless character in a book and tell their story....Well I think I'm going to do that Nana from "Peter Pan" she literally does not have a voice because she is a dog. I started to read J. M Barrie's and at the start of the novel Nana does not have any 'lines' so to speak. Only her actions, which are sometimes interpreted by either the narrator or one of the other characters, tell us her story. I think I'm going to do something akin to "Wide Sargasso Sea" with Nana; give her background story along with her view of Peter. Not 100% sure where this will go, but I think reading the true story will help some.

It sounds very interesting specially because Nana was and still is such a ridiculous and absurd idea to have an actually dog to Nanny three children. At first you might take it as a sort of joke or gimmick but then again the dog is still respected as a person by the family. good idea to do a re-write on. good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Shaista,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting.
Let us know what you find out!
I think it's perfectly valid to use this character in your rewrite.
I'm just wondering what her views on peter might be...
In "Peter Pan" there is a part where the father, mother and the dog reflect on the night Peter comes and takes the children away and the father blames himself for locking the dog in the yard and so she could not protect the kids. So I think I'd start it there. Have her talk about how Peter is the bad guy because he stole three children from their home and then back track to how she came to be the nanny to the family working my way back to the night when Peter comes and then what happens after that. Need to finish the original story first to see how that ends to give a good starting point for my re-wright.
