Re-write Ideas (Brainstorming)

For my first Assignment I was thinking of re-writing a superman comic called Superman: New Krypton. Written by Geoff JohnsJames Robinson, and Sterling Gates with art by Gary FrankAlex RossRenato GuedesJamal Igle and Pete Woods and published by DC comics.

The synopsis of the entire story arc is about an entire Kryptonian city of Kandor (from the planet Krypton) now resides near the Fortress of Solitude in the North Pole, populated by 100,000 Kryptonians.
Although distracted by the recent death of his father Jonathan Kent, Superman attempts to aid the Kryptonians in their assimilation with the rest of the Earth, something very few Kryptonians seem interested in, including the city’s leaders, Zor-El and Alura, Supergirl’s parents.
What I hope to do with text is to re-write from the perspective of Batman (Bruce Wayne) and his thoughts on the assimilation of the new alien race with an already over populated planet. The re-write will look into Batman's mind, especially his worries with 100,000 supermen flying around.

  1. Hi Kendell,
This sounds like an interesting start, but I'm just wondering about the postcolonial ideologies you cold empale.
What about the perspective of the Kryptonians? Why are they 'forced' to 'assimilate' into a new place? (forgive my lack of knowledge of this narrative!)
Is there a group of oppressors? oppressed?
Is there are power imbalance that can be identified?
100,000 supermen flying around does seem excessive! I'd be interestd if I were batman too - but aren't Superman and Batman on the same 'side'.
Is the 'good' and the 'bad' clear in this world?
    Can't wait to read more!
    Esther :)

  2. cool, thanks for the feedback. you can find the answers to your question below.

Question 1) I think I can do that (show from the perspective)of both Batman (the human race) and the Kryptonians (alien race).

Question 2) The reason why the Kryptonians are forced to assimilate with the human race is because their Planet of Origin (Krypton) is destroyed (as seen in the origin of superman).

Question 3) I'm not actually sure about this Question because I'm particularly familiar with the Kryptonion power distance and politics but i have read in some superman comic books about a Kryptonion couple that had escaped the destruction of their home world and by chance travelled to earth. In the story superman finds out these people have arrived and offers them a chance to make a new life on earth and to assimilate into our society, the couple on the other hand felt disrespected and felt that because they we all powerful superior beings that they should be worshipped as gods. so I might draw a little from that piece of material.

    last Question 4)
Superman and Batman are in a way considered pal's however just because they both fight the good fight doesn't necessary mean that
they don't always agree on the same thing. In past stories the two have duked it out before because of there (sometimes) different ideal and beliefs. They are on a side of "justice" but both of the two very completely different people and Batman has always been a man of precaution and always staying three steps ahead of the game.
